What is cornhole?
Cornhole is also known as “corn toss”, “bean bag toss”, “baggo” or “bags”. It’s an outdoor game similar to throwing horseshoes, but safer. Instead of using metal horseshoes, the game is played with a wooden game board (“cornhole board”) plus corn-filled sacks (“cornhole bags”). Players throw the cornhole bags at the cornhole board and try to throw the cornhole bags into the 15 cm hole. A cornhole bag on the board is 1 point and a cornhole bag in the hole is 3 points. Who first scores 21 points, wins! There are a few more rules (official rules and back yard alternative rules) but that is the basics of the game.

Cornhole – a simple game, but so much fun!
Cornhole is a social game played with friends and family in backyards, festivals, barbecues, parties and other kind of social occasions. The game is portable, which means you can play it almost anywhere. The cornhole bags are lightweight so it’s safe for the whole family. Playing cornhole is an easy and fun way to “break the ice” at any party or social gathering. It starts out as a simple game, until you score or lose a round, then it gets tactical. That’s when the excitement begins!

Cornhole – an official sport?
Cornhole is not just a game, but now it is a serious sport. The professional cornhole players (also called pros) are involved in the sport almost full-time. They have sponsorship contracts and in the USA the games are broadcast live on television (ESPN). There are even “meet and greats” with the professional cornhole players. The television broadcasts are professionally set up and are commented live.

American Cornhole Organization (ACO) and the American Cornhole League (ACL)
In America, there are two organizations that are full-time involved with cornhole and everything that comes with it, such as guidelines, competitions, etc. They take cornhole to the next level. However, strict rules and regulations don’t just make this game a certifiable sport. It’s the competitive nature, it’s the skills and the tactics that make it exciting to watch. The cornhole community has even created its own language to communicate during the game.
